LAURA CUDIA For me, Pilates is all about re-claiming my body during these early child rearing years; it’s the benefit of getting in touch with my body that is in perpetual motion constantly running at a challenging pace. With three children, a household, and professional commitments, Pilates is my way to energize, to strengthen and to vitalize even beyond where I was before. When I leave the studio I am ready to engage in my life.
MARIANNE ALS Pilates training has not only increased my strength and flexibility, but has also trained my body to move more efficiently. Whether I’m gardening. lifting groceries, playing sports or just standing in line, I feel that my body is stronger and smarter in handling the task at hand. This translates to fewer injuries and greater pleasure in just about everything I do. It’s really one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself.
MIRIAM BROWN Upon retiring from a demanding job, I found that I needed to focus my scattered interests and energies. Maintaining physical well-being was of paramount concern. Although I don’t really consider myself an athlete, I’ve always exercised regularly, availing myself of various disciplines. I was intrigued by Pilates, so I came to Sangha to become acquainted with its theory and practice. Learning to concentrate on and strengthen specific parts of my body has been a rewarding process. The resulting sense of control and harmony has extended into other areas of my life as well.
BARBARA WRIGHT I have been suffering from lumbar stenosis, spondylolysthesis and two herniated disks for several years. With the pain getting worse, I consulted with four different doctors. I wanted to avoid spinal surgery but knew that it was probably inevitable. In an attempt to strengthen my back, I tried physical therapy, chiropractic intervention and pain management. To alleviate my condition I practiced Pilates over the past year and a half. Pilates definitely strengthened my torso and gave me muscle tone in both my back and core to prepare for the unavoidable surgery. Now that the surgery is over, the doctors and I are certain that the fit state in which I presented myself was achieved through my time studying Pilates. I am recovering at a steady pace and look forward to the day in the near future when I will be able to resume my classes.
